This Friday night, 7 p.m., Ashley Pond, we’ll be paying a tribute to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band, the Police.
Our band will be the Police Experience. Like the Police, our guys play internationally and nationally and deliver a high energy show.
The incredible drummer for the Police, Stewart Copeland says “…every nuance, all the drum parts, and the singer has Sting down to a tee…”

All the carts are loaded and ready to go at the start of the tournament. At the go signal everyone goes dashing off to their assigned tee – the official start is called a “shotgun” start, which is now a horn blast. The Ed Griggs Memorial Strong Kids Classic held at the Los Alamos Golf Course Saturday honors noted golfer Ed Griggs who passed away last year. He played his final round of golf in the Strong Kids Classic tournament last year. It is the second major fundraiser of the year for the Los Alamos Family YMCA. Portable Building Moves Smoothly Through Town
A new portable building made its way up the truck route and through the town to Los Alamos Middle School today. Traffic interruptions were minimal due to the efficient planning and skill of the over size load crew and Los Alamos County Traffic Engineering personnel, police said. Photo by N.S. Mills

Effective this evening, the Los Alamos Fire Department will be posting signs and taping off fire rings and grills in locations throughout Los Alamos County.
Some locations in specific parks that are yet to be determined may remain open due to the location of such device in relation to safety distances from combustible and flammable material.

Leadership Los Alamos Takes Working Hiatus

The Leadership Los Alamos organization is taking the year off to update its program.
Leadership Los Alamos has operated for more than 10 years and things have changed, Chair-elect Mike Wismer said. The community, the economy has evolved, he said, and Leadership Los Alamos is looking at possibly retooling.
It’s something that has already begun. Under LLA Chair Wayne Torpy’s leadership, the recent graduating class was given homework assignments with regard to how leadership compares in today’s world – what worked and what did not.

‘Get Green’ Poster Competition Winners Announced

In the “Get Green” poster competition, grade school students in Los Alamos County showed off their artistic ability and understanding of sustainability.
The resulting entries provide insight into why preserving our environment is so important, and what actions we can all take to help create a more sustainable community.
The Environmental Sustainability Board was given the difficult task of determining the four best entries.
After careful consideration, entries by the following four students were selected:

Things are happening this summer in Los Alamos. You haven’t noticed? Well, just follow me a minute.
The Friday night concerts have been having great crowds. Our first show was May 18 at the Kite Fest and we had about 600 folks out there.
The Red Elvises concert on May 25 drew around 2,500 people and last week’s Laurie Lewis bluegrass/folk concert drew about 1,500 folks. OK? We got more.
Last Friday was the start of what is called on Facebook as “Los Alamos Friday Night.” Check out the site.

DPU Explains Brief Power Outages
DPU News:
A burned jumper at West Diamond Drive and Trinity Drive caused a power outage at 4:15 p.m. Monday for about 100 customers in the Western area, according to officials at the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities.
Elsewhere on the circuit, recloser activity caused momentary power blinks, which were reported from customers at the Ski Hill, Mesa Public Library and other sites.
Power was restored at 5 p.m. to those areas
At 4 a.m. today, an underground line fault caused a power outage on Cheryl and Connie streets in White Rock, affecting about 40 people.
