Brief Power Outage in White Rock Identified
DPU News:
Half of White Rock customers serviced by the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities lost electricity at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The DPU explained that a contractor replacing utility poles in the area inadvertently caused the outage, which was restored 15 minutes later.
A jumper burned while the primary riser was being attached to the new pole structure.
Work procedures require that overhead protective devices be placed on non-reclosing mode when work is being conducted on live electric lines.
This is to avoid further damage to the electric system and for worker safety.

Call for Exhibitors for White Rock’s Art & Artisans Market
The Los Alamos Creative District is now accepting applications for exhibitors/ vendors from throughout the area to display and sell their work at the White Rock Art and Artisans Market.
The market will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Sunday from June 17 until Oct. 21 and is free to the public.
The location will be an outdoor space at the Hive at 134, N.M. 4 in White Rock where about 40 tents and tables can be accommodated.
The Hive is close by the parking and shuttle stop for the Bandelier National Monument shuttle which begins in June – all visitors going to Bandelier will be required to use this shuttle. Read More

As part of the Los Alamos Friday Night Out events, Mesa Public Library is hosting a series of poetry readings each Friday night in June featuring local poets.

Council Zips Through Charter Review Items
Kyle Wheeler served on the Charter Review Committee and is here in Council Chambers this evening along with John Hopkins who served as CRC chair to present recommendations on items in the Charter. Council appointed nine citizens to the Charter Review Committee in November 2009. Council Votes For No Change to Sheriff’s Office
After listening to comments and recommendations from members of the Charter Review Committee, which studied the issue at length, Councilors voted 5-2 to retain present language in the Charter stating that the duties of the Los Alamos Sheriff do not include law enforcement. During the discussion period, Councilor Fran Berting suggested doing away with the Office altogether since Los Alamos County does not have unincorporated land in which a sheriff’s department normally operates. Helicopter Hovering Overhead is Taking Aerial Surveys of Townsite
In response to concerned calls coming in today to the Los Alamos Daily Post about possible fires in Los Alamos, Deputy Fire Chief Justin Grider has confirmed that there are no fires burning anywhere in Los Alamos County. At the go signal everyone goes dashing off to their assigned tee – the official start is called a “shotgun” start, which is now a horn blast. The Ed Griggs Memorial Strong Kids Classic held at the Los Alamos Golf Course Saturday honors noted golfer Ed Griggs who passed away last year. He played his final round of golf in the Strong Kids Classic tournament last year. It is the second major fundraiser of the year for the Los Alamos Family YMCA. Portable Building Moves Smoothly Through Town

Leadership Los Alamos Takes Working Hiatus

The Leadership Los Alamos organization is taking the year off to update its program.
Leadership Los Alamos has operated for more than 10 years and things have changed, Chair-elect Mike Wismer said. The community, the economy has evolved, he said, and Leadership Los Alamos is looking at possibly retooling.
