Chamberfest Weekend
With food, live music, a car show, fashion show, giant sand pile, bubble pit and other family entertainment, it will be a particularly entertaining day.
ChamberFest will be held in downtown Los Alamos from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9 on Central Avenue between 15th and 20th streets, down MainStreet to the Round-about.
More than 55 businesses and organizations are participating either from their storefronts or from one of the many booths that will be located around Central Park Square. The weekend gets started at 7 p.m. Friday June 8 with the Los Alamos County Summer Concert series featuring Greg Abate – a Bebop sax man from Rhode Island w/ Pete Amahl Trio on Central @ Main.
There will be a variety of entertainment staged throughout the downtown on Saturday. The Nomads will be featured from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on the stage downtown on Central Avenue.
The popular gigantic sand pile sponsored by Los Alamos National Bank will form a mini-mountain on Central Avenue in front of CB FOX Department Store.
There will also be a fashion show scheduled for 12:15 p.m. Party to Go! will bring out a bubble pit, local vendors will come out to make festive summer foods and two car shows will fill up the square with Corvettes, classics, hotrods and more.
Run the Caldera Marathon 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday June 9.
The fifth annual marathon (full and half) provides a great opportunity to run at over 8,000 feet of elevation and see most of the Preserve. The course follows old logging roads through the forest and up and down the mountains with some spectacular views. During this picturesque run you will experience over 2,100 feet of elevation change. Young Eagles Flight Rally Saturday, June 9 8 a.m. – Noon @ County Airport
The Young Eagles program gives interested young people, ages 8-17 an opportunity to fly in a general aviation aircraft. Old and young, we will experience and create art together. Minors under 18 will need to accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Ra'hjve is a camping event. Knitting with Beads 101 Workshop @ Warm Hearts Yarn (13 Sherwood Blvd, White Rock) Saturday, June 9th from 10:30 – 12:30
Come and learn the basics of knitting with beads. During this hands-on workshop, participants will learn about casting on and binding off with beads, as well as using beads in the middle of projects.
PEEC Hike to Guaje Canyon Overlook from 9 – 2:30 p.m.
Join Paul Arendt for a hike from the ski hill to the Guaje Canyon Overlook. This 8 mile hike (round trip) has beautiful views into the Valle de los Posos. Bring lunch and water. About 500 ft of elevation gain, with an expected hiking time of 5 hours. Meet at PEEC at 9 am. to carpool to the ski hill. Dogs welcome. Free, no registration required.
Bike Swap at the Los Alamos Co-op on Sunday June 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Los Alamos Co-op is hosting our inaugural Bike Swap, which is brought to you by the Los Alamos Singletrack Association (LASA), an International Mountain Biking Association affiliated club. The Bike Swap is an opportunity for bicycle enthusiasts to sell and buy quality used (and some new) bicycles, parts and accessories.

The Santa Fe Raptor Center will bring three kinds of owls (Barn, Great Horned and Saw-Whet) for participants to learn about. Then, hear recordings of owl calls and take an easy walk in the canyon to listen for owls in the wild. Free to member families. $5 donation to the Raptor Center for non-member families
