FRIENDS OF LOS ALAMOS COUNTY LIBRARIES News:

The Friends of Los Alamos County LIbraries in Mesa Public Library on Central Avenue, is running a sale for 50 percent off of everything in the bookstore.

The sale is just in time for any last minute gift shopping. The sale will run through Christmas Eve, Sunday, Dec. 24. The store will be closed Christmas Day, Monday, Dec. 25.

JAMES ‘JIMBO’ HUTTON II Feb. 24, 1967 – Nov. 27, 2017

James “Jimbo” Hutton II was born February 24, 1967 in Los Alamos, New Mexico. He unexpectedly went home with the Lord on November 27, 2017.

Jimbo is survived by his parents, Jim and Marcia Hutton of White Rock, his beloved son Kyle, of Los Alamos, Marion, the mother of his son, Kyle/s girlfriend, Alegra Martinez, his aunt and uncle, Bob and Lillian Apodoca, and countless cousins and friends.

Jimbo was preceded in death by his grandparents, Celina and Emilio Lovato, Clyde and Aletha Hutton, and many other aunts and uncles.

Reservoir, Access Road Closed Beginning In January

COUNTY News:

Pedestrian access to the Los Alamos Canyon Reservoir and surrounding areas west of the Ice Rink off West Road will be closed in early January through the summer of 2018. 

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities will construct a new 10-inch non-potable water pipeline from the reservoir along the reservoir access road and connect to the townsite’s non-potable water system.

Department officials warn that construction crews with heavy equipment will be utilizing and working on the single dirt road rendering it and the surrounding area unsafe for hikers and/or cyclists. Read More

Santa Fe National Forest Holiday Closures

SFNF News:

SANTA FE – All Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 25 and Monday, Jan. 1 in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays. Forest offices will resume regular business hours Tuesday, Dec. 26 and Tuesday Jan. 2, respectively.

Also, the SFNF Supervisor’s Office at 11 Forest Lane in Santa Fe will be closed 8 a.m. to noon Thursday, Dec. 21 for maintenance.

South Korean Journalists Badly Beaten In China

Reporters Without Borders (RSF) blames the Chinese government for Thursday’s incident in which two South Korean photo-journalists trying to cover their president’s official visit to Beijing were badly beaten by Chinese security agents. The incident is symptomatic of a decline in the situation of foreign journalists in China.

Hundreds of people braved cold temperatures Saturday morning to participate in the annual Wreaths Across America event at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
