Santa Fe National Forest Plans Prescribed Pile Burn

FOREST SERVICE News:

SANTA FE— Fire managers at Santa Fe National Forest are planning to conduct a prescribed pile burn in the Santa Fe Watershed on the Espanola Ranger District. The Santa Fe Watershed pile burn may be conducted from Dec. 1 through the month of February on favorable days as conditions allow. 

Approximately 100 acres of piles may be treated in the Santa Fe Watershed area, which is located approximately two miles east of Santa Fe. Small blocks of piles may be treated each day to decrease the daily smoke volume.

La Jara Prescribed Burn Planned In Santa Fe National Forest

USFS News: 

SANTA FE – Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest are planning to conduct an additional prescribed pile burn on the Cuba Ranger District. In addition to the previously announced Cedar Springs and Chaparral prescribed burns, the La Jara prescribed burn may be conducted through next March, only on favorable days as conditions allow.

Prescribed Burns Planned For Santa Fe National Forest

U.S. Forest Service News:

SANTA FE– Fire managers at the Santa Fe National Forest are planning to conduct prescribed pile burns on the Cuba Ranger District.

The Cedar Springs and Chaparral prescribed pile burns may be conducted from Nov.13 through March 30 only on favorable days as conditions allow. 

The Cedar Springs prescribed pile burn is a total of 160 acres in the area north of the community of LLaves and Dead Man’s Peak Lookout. The Chaparral prescribed pile burn is a total of 120 acres north of the community of Gilman and south of the Rancho del Chaparral Girl Scout Camp near Cuba.  Read More

Sustained Winds Postpone Valles Caldera Prescribed Burn

VCNP News:

Today’s prescribed burn scheduled for the Valle Grande on the Valles Caldera National Preserve has been postponed.

Sustained winds prevented the late morning scheduled ignition and are not expected to dissipate in time to complete the project today. Therefore, the prescribed burn is postponed and will be rescheduled for a date later in the season when conditions permit. Read More

SANTA FE—Fire managers at Santa Fe National Forest are planning to conduct a prescribed burn in the Gallinas Watershed on the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District.

The Gallinas Watershed burn may be conducted from Nov. 12, through the month of December only on favorable days as conditions allow. 

A total of 1,000 acres may be treated in the Gallinas Canyon area approximately 20 miles northwest of Las Vegas. Small blocks may be treated each day to decrease the daily smoke volume.

Valles Caldera Conducts Prescribed Burn Today

The Valles Caldera Trust will conduct a prescribed burn of up to 1,471 acres of grass in the Valle Grande meadow of the Valles Caldera National Preserve.

Ignition will begin after 10 a.m. after frost evaporates and humidity decreases in the Valle Grande meadow, adjacent to N.M. 4 near mile marker 39.2 in the Jemez Mountains. Some traffic delays may occur during the ignition phases of the burn but road closures are not expected.

The Valles Caldera Trust is planning a prescribed burn project on the Valles Caldera National Preserve that will begin as early as next Wednesday, Nov. 12 and last for one to three days.

The prescribed burn will target up to 1,471 acres of grass in the Valle Grande, adjacent to NM Highway 4 near mile marker 39.2. Some traffic delays may occur during the ignition phases of the burn but road closures are not expected.
