LANL’s Charlie McMillan Plays Dead in Arsenic and Old Lace

LALT News:

Arsenic and Old Lace returns to the Los Alamos Little Theatre stage 69 years after its 1944 Los Alamos debut as the opening production of LALT’s 70th season.

In the opening production of Arsenic, the dead body was played by none other than J. Robert Oppenheimer, a role reprised Sept. 14 by current Los Alamos National Laboratory Director Charlie McMillan.

McMillan was deemed a standout in his realistic portrayal of a dead man.

Zombie Walk Brings Living Dead to Pojoaque

The living dead will invade Pojoaque for the Third Annual Pojoaque Zombie Walk and the first ever Pojoaque Zombie Prom. It’s free to participate and or to come and watch. The scary doings will take place Saturday Oct. 26.

The walk is a family friendly event with candy for the kids and multiple costume awards for legal aged adults and minors alike. 

The Prom is being hosted by QB’s Bar and Grill after 9 p.m. and will be limited to adults of legal drinking age.

The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) will feature Tsotsi, Sept. 28, as the second installment in the Composition Cinema I: A Film and Lecture Series, which will run through Nov. 14.

The host for Tsotsi will be UNM-LA Adjunct Faculty member, Zandree Stidham, and the discussion will center around her course theme “Resilience: Why Things Bounce Back.”

Surprise LANL Guest to Make Cameo Appearance in ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’

  • Follows footsteps of Oppenheimer, other Lab scientists

An as-yet-undisclosed Los Alamos National Laboratory official will “revive” the 69-year-old tradition of playing a corpse on stage this weekend in the Los Alamos Little Theater’s production of “Arsenic and Old Lace.”

The Laboratory’s first director, Robert Oppenheimer, played the corpse in the Little Theater’s production of the same play in 1944. Other scientists filled in on occasion.

Co+opRocks!, held on the north side of Ashley Pond 7-10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, is a music and art based event for teens.

The evening kicks off with improv by the High School Theater Department, followed by local musicians including Sonji, Ryan Van Cleave, Matt Tapia, Nathan Lindsey, Michelangelo Lobato, Kile Uhlenbrock and Cody Ulibarri.
