‘Toppers Hockey Loses To La Cueva

BELEN – The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys’ basketball team finished in third place at the Hub City Tournament at Belen High School. The ‘Toppers beat Mission Achievement and Success Charter out of Albuquerque in the first round by a 69-23 score to advance to the winners bracket.

The ‘Toppers ran into a strong 6-A Manzano team, also out of Albuquerque, losing a very tight contest 71-65. The Monarchs ended up winning the Hub City Tournament over host Belen.

Roy, a Los Alamos High School graduate, has been the boys’ head coach at Eldorado High School since 1994 and has compiled a 373-254 record and three state titles in those 24 years.

Lady Hilltoppers At 7 In Joe Armijo Basketball Classic

The Lady Topper Basketball Team is about ready to take to the floor for their first game in the Joe Armijo Basketball ClassicJoe Armijo Basketball Classic played Thursday in the gymnasium at Albuquerque Academy. The tournament ran for three days and is one of the premier tournaments of the basketball season featuring teams from around the state. The toppers drew the Las Cruces Bulldawgs for their first game. The Bulldawgs are a 6A team and rated the number one team in the state.
