Inmate Returns to Jail Following Suicide Attempt

St. Vincent’s Hospital in Santa Fe today released the 28-year-old woman who attempted suicide in her cell at the Los Alamos Detention Center just past midnight Sunday.

Marion Loope of Los Alamos has been incarcerated since her arrest in November on a District Court warrant for failure to comply with conditions of the court.

She had been out on bond following an Oct. 4 incident at Los Alamos Medical Center in which she was charged with two felonies – battery on a health care worker and criminal damage to property.

FBI Asks Public’s Help in Locating Suspect

The FBI and Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations are looking for a suspect in connection with the April 6 stabbing and shooting of a Navajo woman in Ojo Amarillo, on the Navajo Indian reservation near Farmington.

Perfinna King, 32, of the Navajo Nation, is wanted on federal charges.

King is suspected in the stabbing and shooting of a 33-year-old woman whose identity is not being released at this time.

The woman was taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center.

King should be considered armed and dangerous.

Party for PEEC Will Benefit Nature Programs

The annual benefit party for the Pajarito Environmental Educational Center, the nature center in Los Alamos, is being held at the Hilltop House Hotel from 5 p.m.-8 p.m., Sunday April 22.

This is the 13th year for PEEC’s involvement in the community-wide Earth Day Festival with its fund-raising effort.

For the last three years, Felicia Orth has been the chef extraordinaire at the Party for PEEC.

Bjorkland is Best Predictor in First Pace Race of Season

 
Lynn Bjorkland was the top predictor in the opening pace race of the 2012 season held on the Canyon Rim Trail on the first Tuesday evening pace race of the 2012 season. The number of participants that showed up made for a successful event.
 
Lynn was 10 seconds off her predicted time and was also the 2nd fastest in the 3 mile run with a time of 23:50.
 
Other accurate predictors were:  Bob Weeks with a 13 second differential, Roy Cope at 23 seconds off, and Michelle Jones 65 seconds off her prediction.

BREAKING NEWS: Local Inmate Attempts Suicide

A woman incarcerated in the Los Alamos County Detention Center apparently attempted to commit suicide in her cell overnight.

“We had a suicide attempt in the jail last night of a young lady,” Deputy Police Chief Kevin Purtymun said. “We called for an ambulance just after midnight and she was initially transported to Los Alamos Medical Center and subsequently transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Santa Fe.”

Scholarship Honors Memory of Jennifer Marie Fleming

A one time award of $1,000 is being offered by the Jennifer Marie Fleming Memorial Scholarship Fund to a graduating senior of LAHS Class of 2012. This scholarship is in memory of Jennifer Marie Fleming, a student at Los Alamos High School from 1985-87. Her enthusiasm for life, her concern for other people, and her desire to promote a drug and alcohol free environment for students are the inspiration for this award.
