Burst Pipes Most Common in Mountain Towns

New Mexico is bracing for colder temperatures during the next few days with the possibility that many areas of the state will experience temperatures in the below the 20 degree mark- during the night time hours. Many areas of the state face a hard freeze.
When the outside temperature drops below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, water pipes in homes with little or no insulation are likely to freeze and break.
Messy and expensive water losses from burst frozen pipes are more common in mountain towns but all residents have the potential to be caught off guard by a sudden drop in temperatures,

Cindy Eaton to Chair Relay For Life

The American Cancer Society has selected Cindy Eaton to serve as Event Chair for the 2013 Relay For Life® of Los Alamos.
Eaton was selected because of her past experience on the Relay committee. She was the event chair a couple of years ago, and has a great working knowledge of the event.

Former Bernalillo County Corrections Officer Sentenced for Civil Rights Violations

WASHINGTON—Demetrio Juan Gonzales, 40, a former corrections officer at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Albuquerque was sentenced Tuesday in federal court to 33 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for violating the civil rights of an individual in his custody when he struck and choked the victim in the shower room/dress-out area of MDC. Gonzales pleaded guilty in October 2012.

Hardy, shown here with her new T-shirt, successfully guessed that the Los Alamos Daily Post would hit “1,000 Likes” on its Facebook page at 2 p.m., Oct. 11, which was the day and time of her marriage in 1980.
A new contest is now underway with just 29 Facebook “Likes” to go to reach 2,000.

The dinner is 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11 at the Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church.
Tickets are $5 a person – children 8 & under are $3/plate. The dinner includes spaghetti (both a meat sauce and a non-meat sauce will be available), salad, garlic bread, dessert and a drink.
