Join experienced outdoorsman and Los Alamos Mountaineer Michael Altherr for a winter snowshoe on the East Fork Trail. This will be a one-way trip with a shuttle back to the trailhead. Total distance is about 5 miles (3 hours) with one rise of significance (~450′ in 3/4 mile) with a modest obstacle (cattle gate) near the top. Otherwise, the trail follows the meandering East Fork of the Jemez River for approximately two miles before climbing up to the top of the mesa. The trail then descends almost imperceptibly through quiet woodland for about 3 miles to the trail head.  Children and well behaved, friendly dogs are welcome.  If there isn’t enough snow for snowshoeing, this will be a winter hike.   FREE, but space is limited, so please register in advance. If you don’t have snowshoes, Los Alamos County has some to rent out.  For more information, visit the Aquatic Center or see Equipment Rental page.
