Letter to the Editor: Approve Trinity Site Lease Agreement

By Kristin Henderson
Candidate for Los Alamos County Council

I am writing in regard to the Trinity Site Redevelopment project. I am strongly in favor of our County Council agreeing to the assignment of the lease from NADG to Smith’s.

And as opposed to Mr. (Robert) Gibson’s opinion published in Thursday’s Los Alamos Daily Post, I do not think this is the time to, once again, re-think this project. Fifteen years is enough and it’s time to keep moving forward.

First, the fundamentals of this project have not changed since the lease with NADG was signed.

Between a Rock and a Hard Place at Trinity Site

ON THE MESA FACING NORTH

Column by Greg Kendall

It sounds as though North American Development Group [NADG], the current developers for the Trinity Site, have become discouraged by the results of their attempts to secure lease agreements with other retailers and restaurants to lease the many available pads spaces planed for the Trinity Site development.

NADG seems to have become so discouraged that in fact, they are saying “adios muchachos” to the entire Trinity Site Project by requesting that it be handed over to Smith’s/Kroger. Council will discuss the request to transfer Read More

Letter to the Editor: Explore Better Trinity Site Options

By Robert Gibson
Former Los Alamos County Councilor

The Monitor’s headline, “Council short on options,” of Thursday, Sept. 13, regarding the Trinity Site should not be just a lament. It should be a call to action.

The economic viability of the Trinity Site “lifestyle center” concept was uncertain when it was developed in 2005-06, long before investment money for such projects dried up.

Two developers, first Boyer and now NADG, have been unable to implement even scaled down versions.

Why should we think a third entity, Kroger/Smith’s, whose interests are Read More

LAHS Graduate Writes ‘Remarkable’

Author Lizzie Foley with Matthew. Photo by Ana June Creative

Book Review by Kirsten Laskey

Humans no longer seem to rule the earth. The power seems to have shifted to vampires, werewolves, wizards and witches – at least in literature.

To be a character without fangs, without magical powers, seems to be fit only for the background.

Author and former Los Alamos resident Lizzie Foley thinks this is hogwash.

In fact, her debut young adult book, “Remarkable” celebrates the opposite.

The book argues that being ordinary, or simply possessing human qualities, can bring happiness.
