Online voting has begun for the Clint Black Country Cares Competition.

Local country band The Renegade Mountain Band, is set to battle it out against three other New Mexico bands in the live finals of the competition at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 14 at The Dirty Bourbon Dance Hall and Saloon in Albuquerque.

Beer Fiesta at Pajarito Ski Mountain One of Highest-Elevation Microbrew Events in U.S.

The Los Alamos Beer Co-op is brewing up one of the highest-elevation events in the country for beer lovers with the first ever Beer Fiesta Saturday, July 27 at Pajarito Ski Mountain.

Because Pajarito Ski Mountain sits at an altitude above 9,000 feet, this is one of the highest elevation beer fiestas in the nation and sure to be a high-spirited one, at that.

The family-friendly “Beer Fiesta” is sponsored by the Los Alamos Beer Co-op, which now has more than 140 members. The fiesta celebrates the group’s first anniversary. Read More

The Los Alamos All Stars (11 and 12-year-olds) won the District One Championship Wednesday.

The team, consisting of players from Los Alamos and White Rock Little Leagues, went undefeated throughout the tournament.

Highway Maintenance Near Española Monday

NMDOT News:

SANTA FE–The New Mexico Department of Transportation will begin a month-long pavement preservation project next week just north of Española. 

The maintenance work will begin Monday, July 15 on N.M. 68 between mile markers 6 and 12.  Mile marker 6 is approximately one mile north of the junction of N.M. 68 and N.M. 74.

Two private contractors will be doing the work, which is estimated to be completed on or before Aug. 31, pending good weather and no equipment or material supplier problems.  Motorists can expect to encounter lane closures and minor delays.

About 26,000 people attended the June 28-July 1 American Library Association Annual Conference and Exhibition at Chicago’s McCormick Place.

At this huge gathering of librarians and teachers, book publishers and authors saw many roller carts filled with books pack the checkout stand near the front entrance of McCormick Place before the weekend came to a close. Hundreds Affected By Friday’s Power Outages

DPU News:

Friday’s noon lightning storm caused hundreds of Los Alamos customers around the townsite to temporarily lose power.  

North Community, Quemazon, Ponderosa Estates, the ski hill, several homes in both the Fairway and Villa neighborhoods as well as Aspen School all lost power about the same time. Linemen with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities were busy restoring power to the various locations.

Cassidy is a young spayed female fawn/white hound mix, about a year old. She is a total sweetie and a quick learner. She is good with people and other dogs. Cassidy loves to go for walks and is leash trained. She also knows “sit.”

All adoptable pets are microchipped, spayed or neutered, and brought up-to-date on vaccinations. Dogs are checked for heartworm.
