Cinema Cindy Reviews ‘The Equalizer’
By CYNTHIA BIDDLECOMB“The Equalizer” stars one of my favorite leading men, Denzel Washington, as a quiet man living a mundane life in Boston until the day he has a brush with the Russian Mob.
As the story unfolds, we learn very few details about Robert McCall, Denzel’s character in the film. He appears to be a person with a strong sense of justice and some expertise in health and fitness. He lives in an upstairs apartment in a modest neighborhood, rides the bus to work, and seems well liked by his co-workers at Home Mart, where he has a job in the lumber department.

Letter to the Editor: Forum Debate Justifies ‘For’ Vote On Charter Amendment 2
By ROBERT WELLS, P.E.1. The Fuller Lodge forum on Oct. 7 regarding the County’s recommended amendment of the Utilities charter provided ample opportunity for proponents and opponents to present their respective views. Robert Gibson was particularly articulate in presenting opposing views; however, his arguments essentially stressed fear that the amendment would enable future County councilors to raid the Utilities Department’s treasury. In effect, Gibson seemed to be saying that, while former Read More

Letter to the Editor: Can’t We Just Get Along?
By A Longtime Los Alamos Resident
Wow. All this discussion about dogs has me wondering what to think. I’ve lived in Los Alamos 60 years. Our family has always had and continues to have dogs. We’re not bad people. We don’t want to disturb our neighbors – we want to be neighborly neighbors and we sincerely try to be.
If you need help shoveling snow, changing a tire or getting your car started, a meal or two while you’re convalescing, bringing your mail and newspapers in while you’re out of town, watching your children before the bus arrives because you have to get to work earlier than usual, running an errand, Read More

Letter to the Editor: A Resident Who Does Not Want To Live ‘Exponentially’!
By GEORGE, Los Alamos Resident For 35 YearsI am not sure I want to live exponentially. Especially I do not like the exponential wasting of money over useless branding, useless and continuing red barrels around town.
I would like the council to live within its means; increasing, rather than wasting, general funds for some emergencies the town may experience.
Even as a democrat, really independent, I would like the council to work to reduce taxes, reduce ostentatious inessential spending, and reduce the size of government. Read More

Redmond: Why I’m Running For Magistrate Judge
Fellow concerned citizens,
I want to thank you for the support you have shown me thus far in my campaign and to share with you some thoughts about the position of magistrate judge. Many of you have asked me, “Why do we have so many judges for such a small town? We don’t have that much crime do we?” The answer, when boiled down to the basics, is fairly easy to understand.
The differences between municipal and magistrate judges are their jurisdictions. Municipal Court has jurisdiction over violations of municipal ordinances, and the municipal

Letter to the Editor: ‘Live Exponentially?’ – Council Is Not Listening
By RAO GARIMELLALetter to the Editor: Better Living, Exponentially
By KHALIL SPENCER Since Council just approved a contract with Atlas Advertising, LLC to create a strapline “Living Exponentially”, perhaps we should actually live by this slogan. I have two suggestions. These might address the flood of sarcastic letters headed to the Los Alamos Daily Post aimed at this $225,000 expenditure and also may remedy the recent upheaval directed at barking dogs.
Indeed, an exponent can be less than one, so living exponentially doesn’t necessarily mean living extravagantly but can also mean living with less. Radioactive decay, for Read More
TOTH: Why Does A Good God Allow Evil?
Mother Alicia Pope. Courtesy/TOTH
Ever wonder about why God would allow evil into the world? Do you struggle with trusting God in the midst of your suffering?
Certainly, this issue gives the media great fodder with which to stir us up and attack our fears! The media show us constant clips of shootings, murders, terrorism, abuse, poverty, natural disasters, and horrible diseases, just to name a few. Why does God allow all this evil, and what is His plan in the midst of it?
This Sunday evening at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, Read More

Letter to the Editor: A Letter From An Actual Dog
By Los Alamos DogFirst off, I guess I should apologize for being a dog in Los Alamos. People seem to be getting really annoyed with us lately. But hear me out (I’m not barking right now, just talking), because I have a few things to say.
You humans domesticated us long ago, and we actually thank you for that. We enjoy our lives with you, sleeping indoors on warm beds, always getting fed each day, getting medical care when we need it, and being on the receiving end of lots of love from you. But, no matter how much you may treat us like humans, we are still dogs.
We are territorial by nature, and that means we bark
