COMMUNITY News:

To raise funds for their summer tour, Los Alamos students participating in the Europe 2015 travel are putting together personalized packages filled with gifts for happy college students.

Parents of college students may send their college student a College Care Package from Los Alamos and support educational travel for these 2015 high school seniors.

For $30, Europe 2015 travelers will fill a College Care Package with treats such as homemade cookies, crackers, candy, hot chocolate and tea; school supplies including sticky notes, pens and pencils; personal items such as razors, toothbrushes and tissues; local fare including green chile and pinon nuts; Halloween surprises including candy corn and pumpkin-related gifts and hand-written notes from home.

To order, send a message with your college student’s name and address, along with any food restrictions or requests to Europe 2015 Group Leader, Lynn Ovaska at lynnovaska@gmail.com by Tuesday, Oct. 14. You will get a confirmation email once the package has been sent. Checks made payable to Europe 2015.

The College Care Packages are just the beginning of the fundraising for the Europe 2015 group’s tour of Italy and Greece next June. Europe 2015 travelers look forward to sharing excitement about their educational tour in the upcoming months as they sell their tasty bags of Fair Trade, organic coffee and their creative Holiday Crafts.

As with past tours, the goal of Europe 2015 is to expand the world view of Los Alamos’ young adults before they head off to college. As they witness new cultures first-hand and experience history usually only learned in textbooks, these 2015 graduates will develop skills to be global citizens and an independent adult.

Funds raised from the College Care Packages will help the group visit ancient historical sites in Italy and Greece, including the Vatican, Roman Colosseum, Pompeii, Acropolis, Olympic Stadium and the islands of Greece.
