ART News:

This year’s Los Alamos Artists Studio Tour is Oct. 11-12 and the Los Alamos Daily Post is featuring a “Get to Know Your Artist” series leading up to the annual event.

Each of the 16 artists participating in the tour will be showcased prior to the beginning of the tour to allow our readers an opportunity to learn about them and their work.

Meet Los Alamos artist Jeanne Robinson:

I have been knitting and crocheting since I was in early grade school. I made my first sweater in grade school and wore it through grad schooI. It seems I was doing fiber art before I knew that was what it was called. I outfitted my younger siblings in some unique ensembles, some of which I still have and others of which I wish I still did.

About four years ago I began my wearable arts business, Corky and Dode Designs, named after my parents, so I could share my love of unique designs. I focus on multicolor, textured handknits and hand-crocheted pieces based primarily on my original designs.

Coming from the Midwest, I appreciate complex Scandanavian design and I have combined some of my geometric designs with a Southwest influence. I aim to create functional yet beautiful wearable pieces ranging from openwork shrugs to eye-catching cowls and warm fleece-lined hats.

A new focus this season is on ruffled crocheted and open weave wraps and shawls suitable for office or formal occasions and fun fringed ponchos that look great with jeans. I very much enjoy collaborating with my daughter, Elise Koskelo, concerning the interplay of color and texture. We will be showcasing our work at 1855 Sereno St. this weekend. Please park and enter on Quemezon. I can be reached at CorkyandDodeDesigns@gmail.com.
