Volunteer Meeting For Relay For Life March 19

ACS News:

The 2015 American Cancer Society Los Alamos Relay for Life is looking for volunteers.

The first volunteer committee meeting is 6 p.m. Thursday, March 19 in the Large Conference Room (LCR) at Los Alamos Medical Center. The LCR is on the ground level near the cafeteria. Plenty of parking is available on the canyon side of LAMC near the cafeteria entrance.  Pizza and soft drinks served during the meeting will be hosted by Los Alamos Medical Center.

SIMON RAISTRICK April 27, 1980 – March 1, 2015

Simon Raistrick died on March 1, 2015, of a drug overdose. He had been struggling with addiction for some years.   

He was born April 27, 1980, in California, but spent his childhood in Los Alamos, NM, with frequent summer trips to England, where his father is from, as well as trips to New Zealand, France, and Greece. This awakened the travel bug in Simon.  

He formed close friendships in his kindergarten class at Barranca Mesa School … friendships that have lasted all his life.

PHOENIX – The Internal Revenue Service seeks civic-minded New Mexicans to serve on the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP), a federal advisory committee that listens to taxpayers, identifies major taxpayer concerns and makes recommendations for improving IRS service.

The TAP provides a forum for taxpayers to raise concerns about IRS service and offer suggestions for improvement. Los Alamos Atomic Tumblers Compete At Monopoly Meet

SPORTS News:

The Los Alamos School of Gymnastics Atomic Tumblers competed Valentines Day weekend in the Monopoly Meet at Boardwalk Gymnastics in Belen.  

In the Xcel competition, Chantal Biebeault was the highest scorer of the day, taking the gold all-around medal in the bronze junior competition with 37.05.
 
Biebeault also took gold in all four events with a 9.5 on bars, 9.45 on beam, 9.10 on floor and and a 9.00 on vault. Her sister Colette Biebeault won the younger bronze division, taking the gold with 35.25. She also took gold on vault (8.70), silver on bars (9.30)

Additional Traffic Control On West Road For Passage Of 12 Large Film Trucks Afternoon-Evening March 11

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County has approved a flagging operation on the section of West Road between Diamond Drive and the top of Los Alamos Canyon (by the ice rink) to allow passage of 12 large filming trucks that require both lanes to safely negotiate the turns in the road.

This flagging operation will be conducted by a certified contractor and monitored by the County’s Traffic Division. Temporary lane closures are scheduled to occur between 6-10 p.m., Wednesday, March 11 after filming is completed along Camp May Road. I had intended this week to share one of the soups my mother made regularly as we were growing up: potato leek. I was planning to make a big batch to share. I purchased five pounds of Yukon gold potatoes and two bunches of leeks and a bouquet of fresh parsley to chop as a bright green garnish for the top of each bowl. I knew that pureeing some of the potato/leek mixture after it was cooked would take the place of most or all of the cream one might ordinarily add.
