Los Alamos County Spelling Bee Champion Nora Cullinan tied for fourth place at the New Mexico State Spelling Bee this Saturday. This is the highest state finish for a Los Alamos speller in recent memory.
An eighth grade student at Los Alamos Middle School, Cullinan took second place in the Middle School Bee to advance to the County Bee, which she won with the word “hippopotamus.”
To prepare for the State Bee, Cullinan studied a list of more than 1,100 words provided by Scripps, the organizers

LOU PIEROTTI March 21, 2015
Lou Pierotti, age 94, longtime resident and Living Treasure of Los Alamos, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015.
Lou will be remembered as the creator of Pierotti’s Clowns, a 5 man softball team.
A rosary for Lou will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 26 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 3700 Canyon Road. A Funeral Mass for Lou will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 27 at IHM. A Reception will follow the Mass at Karen McLaughlin Parish Hall.
Note: Interment is 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2015 at Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos.
