Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation (LACDC) announces a new program aimed at assisting local business improve the exterior of their buildings.
The Facade Improvement loan program is available to any business in Los Alamos County located in a commercial zone. Loans are available in the amount of $500 to $25,000 and are 0 percent interest. Gov. Susana Martinez signed legislation Wednesday to help protect New Mexico’s children from e-cigarettes and liquid nicotine products.
Senate Bill 433, sponsored by Sen. John Ryan, R-Albuquerque, will prohibit the sale of e-cigarettes to minors and requires retail liquid nicotine packages to be sold in child-resistant containers. If a child consumes liquid nicotine, it can be fatal.
House Bill 213, sponsored by Rep. Sarah Maestas Barnes, R-Albuquerque, also requires child-resistant packaging for liquid nicotine products.

Prescribed Burn In Santa Fe Watershed Postponed

Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest cancelled plans to conduct a prescribed burn in the lower portion of the Santa Fe Municipal Watershed next week based on the wind forecast and concerns for firefighter and public safety.
According to the National Weather Service, winds may range from 10 to 40 miles per hour next week, significantly increasing the likelihood of area Red Flag Warnings, which alert firefighting and land management agencies to short-term weather conditions that may result in extreme fire behavior.

The inmates built a hoop house for Turquoise Trail Charter School in Santa Fe. The hoop house will provide the children at the school with the opportunity to grow and harvest their own fruits and vegetables.
