CI News:

Inmates at the Penitentiary of New Mexico in Santa Fe County are giving back to the community.

The inmates built a hoop house for Turquoise Trail Charter School in Santa Fe. The hoop house will provide the children at the school with the opportunity to grow and harvest their own fruits and vegetables.

The project gave the inmates the opportunity to give back and do something good while in prison. The project was made possible by Corrections Industries (CI). In September, CI launched a new program that provided inmates with horticulture vocational training.

“First and foremost, Corrections Industries focuses on inmate programming,” CI Acting Director Anna Martinez said. “A vital component of program success is learning to give back to the community.”
