Letter To The Editor: Second In Series On Los Alamos County Water Distribution System
By GEORGE CHANDLERThis is the second (link) in a series of letters regarding the Los Alamos County water distribution system and what I have learned about it following my research after two leaks in the delivery lines that traverse my back yard, in February 2014 and May 2015.
Here I will describe the remarkable rules of the DPU that shift part of the burden of their failure to address the problem of aging water lines to homeowners.
The canonical arrangement for water distribution is a water distribution line (“main”) in the street, a delivery line from the main to the water
Smart Design With Suzette: Deck Design Ideas
Tiered deck. Courtesy photo
By SUZETTE FOXYou may think of your deck as just a bland wooden platform jutting out to your backyard, but with a little planning and good design, that space can become a fabulous alfresco family room and entertainment center.
Plan for the Way You Live
Start with general ideas of what the deck can do to enhance your life. What will you use the deck for? Maybe you want to emphasize intimate gathering and dining areas. If you love to grill, design an outdoor kitchen. Ask family members what they’d like from your future deck: a friendly conversation pit; container Read More

Pastor Granillo: Preemptive Peace
By Pastor RAUL GRANILLOAs I sat down to write this, my house shook from the shockwave of a nearby explosion. Thursdays are when the National Lab performs explosive test here in Los Alamos; or so I have been told. (I don’t have clearance, so have to take everyone at their word.) Thursdays are often a surreal reminder of our distrust for others and the extremes that we will go to in order to protect our way of life. As a husband and a father, it scares the hell out me.
According their website, in 2015 there were 10,827 people employed working at Los Alamos National Labs. The vast majority of those Read More
