Udall Urges Congress To Make Changes To Improve And Protect U.S. Mail Service

SENATE News:

WASHINGTON, D.C. ― U.S. Sen. Tom Udall has joined over 80 members of Congress in signing a letter calling for provisions that improve and protect mail delivery and service to be added to the comprehensive U.S. Postal Service reform legislation that has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives.

In many New Mexico communities, especially in rural areas, the post office is a meeting place and an anchor on Main Street. Udall has heard from many New Mexicans who have expressed concerns about rollbacks in postal service.

It has been about three years since the aroma of fresh coffee and food filled the Student Center on the UNM-Los Alamos campus.

SFNF Offices Closed Thanksgiving Day

SANTA FE ― All Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24, in observance of Thanksgiving Day.

Forest offices will resume regular business hours Friday, Nov. 25.

Interstate Stream Commission Accepts Jemez y Sangre Regional Water Plan

SANTA FE ― The Interstate Stream Commission accepted the Jemez y Sangre Regional Water Plan, Nov. 17.

The presentation of the plan by regional Steering Committee representatives, Santa Fe County Commissioner Kathy Holian and Water Resources Coordinator Andrew Erdmann of the City of Santa Fe Water Division, to the commission focused on the key water issues, collaborative strategies and regional recommendations for consideration in the state water plan update.

Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op and local artist Sasha Scully have teamed up for a Nov. 27 event to raise money to help families in need this winter.

Onate NJROTC Upsets Los Alamos

NJROTC News:

Shooting their highest score of the season, Onate NJROTC upset Los Alamos NJROTC 900 to 876 last week in the National Air Rifle League.

Onate NJROTC was able to win despite averaging 6 points lower than Los Alamos NJROTC coming into this game.

Onate NJROTC finishes the season in fourth place in their Division with a 5-2 record. Onate NJROTC was led by Izabell Homer who shot a 245. The remaining contributing members were Sariah Salas, Angel Day and Damon Moran. Onate NJROTC is from Las Cruces and coached by Robert Rodriguez.

STEVEN J. MARTINEZ Sept. 12, 2016

Steven J. Martinez, born Sept. 22 in Los Alamos, NM, passed away Sept. 12, 2016 from natural causes at his residence in Albuquerque.

Steven was proceeded in death by his mother, Coralyn Sue Martinez and his father, Willie Martinez, and Steve’s girlfriend, Lorrice Meredith.

He is survived by his son, Heath Wade, of Los Alamos, brother Wayne and wife Tember of Los Alamos, sister Mardell and husband Brian of Port Townsend, Washington and brother Tommy and wife Frances of Albuquerque.
