WASHINGTON, D.C. — Thursday, U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, lead Democrat on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment and Related Agencies, advanced major funding for New Mexico’s public lands, infrastructure, environmental protection and stewardship, and programs for Indian Country as part of the Fiscal Year 2019 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill.

Courts Warn New Mexicans About Jury Duty Scam

SANTA FE The Administrative Office of the Courts is warning New Mexicans about a scam in which people are called and threatened with arrest unless they pay money for failing to report to jury duty.
 
Anyone receiving such a call should not agree to pay any money and immediately should report the incident to local law enforcement.
 
“New Mexico courts never demand a payment of money from individuals who miss a jury service date,” Artie Pepin, director of the Administrative Office of the Courts said.

FBI: Mescalero Apache Man Pleads Guilty To Assault

ALBUQUERQUE Patrick Moquino, 39, an enrolled member of the Mescalero Apache Nation who resides in Mescalero, pled guilty Wednesday in Federal Court in Las Cruces, to an assault charge.

 

Moquino was arrested July 11, 2017, on a criminal complaint charging him with assaulting a Mescalero Apache man by punching and kicking the victim in the head. Moquino subsequently was indicted Nov. 8, 2017, and charged with assault resulting in serious bodily injury. The lightning-caused San Antonio Fire on Valles Caldera National Preserve has grown to 426 acres and is located in the northwest area of the preserve between Valle San Antonio and northern boundary.

Resources consist of more than 100 fire personnel. The Albuquerque Zone Incident Management Type 3 Team is on scene and expected to take command at 8 a.m. Saturday.
