The Lunker is a huge rainbow trout that everyone knows about and no one has caught. So far he has resisted flies, worms, salmon eggs, spinners, and even an imitation mouse that Dud tossed in there one time just to see if the Lunker had a bass’s appetite.
 
Fish aren’t really all that bright, but the Lunker seems to deserve membership to Fish Mensa. No matter how fine the leader a guy used, it didn’t fool him.

Information Session Set For Military Service Academies

U.S. SENATE News:
 
Staff for U.S. Sen. Tom Udall will host an information session 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29, at the University of New Mexico for high school students and recent graduates interested in applying to the U.S. military service academies.
 
Representatives from Udall’s office, the New Mexico congressional delegation and the military service academies will be available to field questions from prospective applicants and parents. Udall is accepting applications for nominations to enter an academy in the fall of 2019.

Scenes From Lady Hilltoppers Volley Ball Match Against Bloomfield Bobcats

The Lady Hilltoppers Volley Ball Team played their season opener against the Bloomfield Bobcats Saturday afternoon in Griffith Gymnasium. The Toppers came out strong and won three sets, 25-8, 25-16 and 25-12 to win the match. Sophia Salazar had 15 kills and 6 digs on the match. Natalie Gallegos had 9 kills and earned 12 points from the service line, with five of those being aces. Kyla Sandoval had 7 digs and 14 points and 4 ace serves. Elise Olive had 17 assists and earned 7 points off of serves. Elodie Thelliez had 9 assists and earned 11 serving points. It was a nice start to the 2018 volleball season. Read More

RTD Closed For Labor Day Holiday Monday Sept. 3

NCRTD News:

The North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD) has announced that the RTD “Blue Buses,” with the exception of the RTD 255 Mountain Trail route to the Santa Fe National Forest, will not be in service Monday, Sept. 3, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

The RTD 255 Mountain Trail Route will be operating its weekday schedule, providing two roundtrips for the day.

Regularly scheduled bus service throughout north central New Mexico will resume Tuesday, Sept. 4. Read More

FBI Searches For Suspected Serial Bank Robber

The FBI is looking for a man who robbed an Albuquerque bank Thursday, Aug. 23, and is suspected of recently robbing three other banks in the city.
 
First Convenience Bank, inside the Walmart on 2550 Coors Blvd. NW, was robbed at approximately 2:39 p.m. The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male in his 30s, approximately 5’5” to 5’6” tall, with short dark hair and tattoos on his left arm.

The Lady Toppers Soccer Team opened their season with a game against the Santa Fe Prep Blue Griffins at home at Sullivan Field. The Toppers cruised to a 3-0 win over the Griffins, which had an undefeated season last year during regular play and lost in the final game at the State Playoffs in a double overtime. The win was a big one for the Toppers and a very nice way to begin the season. The team will have their next game Sept. 8 in the four corners area against Farmington. New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez has ordered all flags in New Mexico to be flown at half-staff to honor U.S. Sen. John McCain who died from brain cancer Saturday afternoon at his home in Arizona.

State Police Investigate Deputy-Involved Shooting

Around 3:30 p.m., Aug. 14, Otero County Sheriff’s Department deputies began pursuing a stolen vehicle.
 
The vehicle, a silver Dodge sedan, fled from deputies when they attempted to contact the vehicle south of Alamogordo. The pursuit involving multiple deputies entered the city limits of Alamogordo, where deputies discontinued the pursuit for safety concerns.
