Bandelier National Monument will be celebrating the Year of the Bird in October with Global Big Day #2 Oct. 6.

State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints; saturation patrols; and registration, insurance and driver’s license checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during the month of October.

Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office staff members operate a voter registration booth Tuesday night in the lobby of the Municipal Building. The clerk’s office took part in National Voter Registration Day. Throughout the day, booths were located around town including Los Alamos High School, Starbucks and the White Rock Senior Center with information on how to vote as well as sample ballots for the upcoming election in November. Visitors are invited to spend a beautiful, autumn day in Frijoles Canyon at the Annual Fall Fiesta, 11.a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 6, at the Bandelier Visitor Center.

Each weekend through the summer, Pueblo cultural demonstrators showcase their work at the park. For the Fall Fiesta, all these artists are invited to come on the one day, sell their crafts, and talk with visitors. Handmade items that are expected to be available include pottery, jewelry, drums, and carvings.

AG Balderas Reaches $148 Million Settlement With Uber Over Data Breach

ALBUQUERQUE – Today, Attorney General Hector Balderas announced that he, along with the other 49 states and the District of Columbia, has reached an agreement with California-based ride-sharing company Uber Technologies, Inc. (Uber) to address the company’s one-year delay in reporting a data breach to its affected drivers.

State Court Of Appeals Sides With NMFOG In Holding That Public Entities That Provide Incomplete IPRA Responses May Have To Pay Damages

COURT News:

ALBUQUERQUE – In a significant case shining light on enforcement of the Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA), the New Mexico Court of Appeals Monday reversed a lower court ruling and sided with the New Mexico Foundation for Open Government (NMFOG). 

The Court’s ruling states that a public entity that provides an inadequate response to an IPRA request may be liable for damages of up to $100 per day.

The Jemez House Thrift Shop in White Rock has closed due to the loss of our lease. We are hoping to find a new location for the shop that fits within our budget.
 
The thrift shop has been at 13 Sherwood (units 2&3) since 1991. All funds generated by the sale of goods donated to the Jemez House Thrift Shop are given in scholarship money to New Mexico students who have, at some point, resided in a New Mexico group home.
 
Over the last 10 years, we awarded $435,560.00 to qualified students to assist them in pursuing their post-secondary educational goals.

The early morning start time has bikers scurrying to get ready including Quinn Abtalterer for the 46th Annual Tour de Los Alamos held Sunday in Los Alamos. The race is said to be the oldest in the southwest. Sunday drew 59 bikers in the 27-mile course that runs the loop around Bandelier and the Truck Route and ends at the intersection of East Jemez Road/West Road on LANL property. Santa Fe Watershed Prescribed Burn Update

SFNF News:
 
SANTA FE  Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) completed a 545 acre prescribed burn Monday in the Santa Fe Watershed, about three miles east of the City of Santa Fe, to help protect the watershed from high intensity wildfire.
 
Prescribed burning is not planned in the watershed again until the spring.
 
The 545 acre prescribed burn was conducted in proximity to Nichols and McClure Reservoirs. Parts of a 450 acre area northeast of Nichols Reservoir received treatment, as did parts of a 500 acre area just south of McClure Reservoir.
