PETER J. ADAMS Nov. 9, 2018

Peter J. Adams died November 9, 2018 while out for a walk in Bend, Oregon. He was born in Hawkhurst, Kent, England.

Peter graduated from the University of Oregon with a B.S. in mathematics and physics in 1963. During his undergraduate years, he spent summers at Lawrence Radiation Laboratory working on Project Sherwood, Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, and two years at the National Nuclear Rocket Development Center, working on Project Rover.

NMSP: 2018 Thanksgiving C.A.R.E Operation

During the Thanksgiving holiday, the New Mexico State Police participated in the Combined Accident Reduction Effort (CARE) operation across all roadways within the state.

The goal of the traffic initiative is that a strong law enforcement presence will have a direct effect on the driving behaviors of motorists during the holiday weekend, and, thus, reduce the number of crashes and increase motorist safety.

SFNF: Chaparral Prescribed Burn May Start Today

SFNF News:

To take advantage of favorable conditions, to include fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts, fire managers on the Cuba Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) expect to begin ignitions today, Nov. 26 on Chaparral piles to reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire.

Weather permitting, crews are expected to treat up to 59 acres of the Chaparral piles, and may conduct treatments anytime between Nov. 26 and March 15, 2019 as conditions allow.

NMSP: Barricaded Suspect Arrested On Interstate 25

BERNALILLO COUNTY – At around 6:31 p.m. Saturday, New Mexico State Police Officers conducted a traffic stop on a white Nissan pickup for a traffic violation. The traffic stop was on Tramway near Interstate 25.

 The driver, Orlando Lopez, 56, of Albuquerque refused to exit his vehicle. Lopez armed himself with a knife and barricaded himself inside his vehicle. State Police Crisis Negotiators and Tactical Team were called in to assist, and east and westbound lanes on Tramway and I-25 were closed.

After hours of negotiations, Lopez was arrested and taken into custody. Read More

JERRY F. DAVIS Nov. 22, 2018

Jerry F. Davis, 88, affectionately known by her family as GG, a resident of La Mesilla, passed on Thursday, November 22, 2018. She passed peacefully surrounded by more than 40 family members and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy, son, Max and special grandson Ray Martinez; mother Ann Neunlist; sisters, Ann Duncan and Dixie Sandlin.

SFNF: Cattle Guard Installation On Jemez Ranger District Postponed Until Spring

SFNF News:

SANTA FE – Santa Fe National Forest officials postponed the installation of cattle guards on Forest Road 105 (Sulfur Creek Road) and Forest Road 106 (Thompson Ridge Road) until spring. 

Installation was originally planned the week of Nov. 12, but is postponed until forest officials can ensure emergency access during construction.

The plan is to complete the project ahead of the next grazing season.
