More than 215 students from across New Mexico competed April 6 at the state National History Day (NHD) event at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

Loretta J. Maes passed away on April 15, 2019, peacefully at home in Las Vegas, NM, at the age of 74.

She was born in the beautiful countryside of Cebolla, NM. Loretta was a loving person who traveled the world through her education. She held a Bachelor of Social Work from NM Highlands University where she developed close relationships with the students and faculty.

Loretta is preceded in death by her beloved son, Patrick Ismael Medina; her grandson, Manuel Saenz; her sister, Lydia Garcia; and her three brothers, Gilbert, Joseph and Sonny Maes.

SANTA FE Fire managers on the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) plan to implement a prescribed burn in the Tent Rocks area between May 11 and June 1, if conditions remain favorable.
 
The treatment area is approximately 3.5 miles north of Jemez Springs, NM, and less than 1 mile southwest of La Cueva.

When Phil Rink was growing up in Los Alamos, he was a bright kid, already on the road to becoming the inventor and engineer he would be as an adult.

His favorite books were not about magic and dragons, nor were they about interpersonal relationships between young adults. He loved plot driven books that explained something, or taught how to solve a problem, he said. Now this type of book, think Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys, has become hard to find.
