It is with torn hearts that we announce the passing of Lenley Christopher Salazar (Nick Salazar), who departed us June 28, 2023. Nick’s absence has left a profound void in our lives, but his memory will be cherished forever by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Los Alamos National Laboratory Schedules Emergency Preparedness Exercise For Wednesday July 12

LANL News:

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has scheduled an emergency preparedness exercise for Wednesday, July 12. 

The exercise will test the preparedness of personnel who would respond in the case of an actual emergency. The exercise will begin at 8 a.m. and last approximately 7 hours.  The event is only an exercise.

Some elements of this exercise may be observable to the public, such as increased emergency vehicle traffic, workers in protective equipment performing simulated activities and “exercise in progress” signage.

The New Mexico Supreme Court issued a landmark ruling last week that partisan gerrymandering violates the Equal Protection Clause of the New Mexico Constitution.

This decision guarantees protections against the manipulation of voting districts and empowers a trial court to adjudicate Republican Party of New Mexico v. Oliver, a partisan gerrymandering claim arising out of the most recent redistricting cycle.

Los Alamos DPU To Dump Trash Bag Sales

COUNTY News:

Due to customer demand, trash bags have been sold through the Customer Care Center (CCC), a division of the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) since curbside bins were rolled out to the public almost 20 years ago.

DPU will discontinue the offering once all existing inventory is depleted.

Trash bags can be purchased for $18.50 per box of 200 while supplies last.

The CCC is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday on the ground floor of the Los Alamos County Municipal Building at 1000 Central Ave. Read More

Gov. Lujan Grisham Appoints Morgan Wood To Santa Fe County Magistrate Court To Replace Dev Atma S. Khalsa

COURT News:

SANTA FE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has appointed Morgan Wood to the Santa Fe County Magistrate Court.

Wood, 49, is a prosecutor in the Children’s Court in the Frist Judicial District in Santa Fe. She started in the office in September 2020. Wood has 18 years of criminal law experience in New Mexico.

Originally from Fort Collins, Colo., Wood received a Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University in New Orleans. She graduated from the University of Denver College of Law in 2004. Wood holds a license to practice law in New Mexico.

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Environment Department petitioned the Environmental Improvement Board last week to adopt Advanced Clean Cars and Advanced Clean Truck rules to help ensure New Mexicans have access to zero-emission and low emission vehicles like electric cars and trucks and plug-in hybrids.
