The Board of the Living Treasures of Los Alamos announces the 2023 Los Alamos Living Treasures:

          • Don Cobb;
          • Barbara Caleb; and
          • Joyce Nichols.

The 2023 Living Treasures Ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10 in Fuller Lodge. Please note that attendance is by invitation only.

Heinrich, Luján, Vasquez Announce $9.2 Million In Funding From Infrastructure Law To Deliver High-Speed Internet To Sierra And Doña Ana Counties

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) and U.S. Rep. Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.) have announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded $9,256,350 in funding from the Infrastructure Law for New Mexico-based Sacred Wind Communications to expand reliable, affordable, high-speed internet for residents in Sierra and Doña Ana counties.

The funding will be delivered through USDA’s Rural Development Reconnect Loan and Grant Program.

FBI: Shiprock Man Pleads Guilty To Assault Of 13-Month-Old Infant Facing Up To 10 Years In Prison

ALBUQUERQUE — Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, have announced that Myron Benally, 38, of Shiprock, and a registered member of the Navajo Nation, pled guilty in federal court to assault resulting in serious bodily injury.

Benally will remain in custody pending sentencing, which has not been scheduled.

Leonard D. Gehre (Jack), 88 years old, passed away Aug. 8, 2023.

Jack was born in Kearney, NE, March 26, 1935. He graduated from Gibbon High School. He went on to Kearney State and studied there for a couple of years. He then joined the Army Band and played the French horn in 1957. Most of his duty was in Germany. He returned to Kearney State and received his Degree in Mathematics in December of 1959. He later attended several colleges and finished his master’s degree from Portales, NM.

COMMANDER CARL FREDRICK HUTH, JR.

Commander Carl Fredrick Huth, Jr., 93, USN Ret’d, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2023, in Reno, NV.

Retiring from the Navy in 1978, he served as Program Manager at LANL, Los Alamos, NM until 1993.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, brothers Robert and George, and children Carl III, Kirk, and Lisa.

Arrangements are with Walton Funeral Home, Reno.  Commander Huth will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
