Kindergarten students from the Los Alamos Public Schools were treated to the annual Teddy Bear Clinic Friday at Los Alamos Medical Center. The program gives students a better understanding of the emergency services available to the community and to build confidence and familiarize them with how these services work. Kiwanis: Dr. Paul Daly Addresses Measles Outbreak
Dr. Paul Daly, a physician at Los Alamos National Laboratory speaks about the current status of measles in the U.S. during Tuesday’s Kiwanis Club’s meeting at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church. Dr. Daly reported so far this year there have been 704 cases of measles in the U.S. However, no cases have been reported in Los Alamos or elsewhere in the state. Measles, Daly said, is highly contagious to those who are not immune.The virus is spread through coughing or sneezing. Symptoms can include a high fever, conjunctivitis and a rash. In times of emergency or disasters, the need for volunteers to assist in providing aid to victims, families and first responders becomes critical.
The New Mexico Medical Reserve Corps (NMMRC) maintains New Mexico’s statewide registry of volunteer healthcare providers and support personnel. It is part of the Emergency Systems for Advance Registration of Volunteer Health Professionals (ESAR-VHP).

Nearly Two Of Three New Mexicans Know Someone Addicted To Opioids
NMDOH News:
A New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) survey finds 85 percent of adults in the state recognize prescription opioid abuse to be an extremely serious public health problem in our state, with nearly two-thirds of those surveyed reporting they know someone who is or has been addicted to opioids.
Opioids are a class of drugs such as oxycodone, codeine, morphine heroin and fentanyl, all of which can cause addiction. The survey, implemented by Research & Polling, Inc., was supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Among the survey findings:
