Los Alamos County officials have announced that the local Teen Center in downtown Los Alamos has received a “LEED Certified” designation for the remodeling of the community building space that took place in 2016.
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and varying status levels can be achieved by applying for credits awarded for sustainable design through a points system designed by the US Green Building Council.

As shown in this photo taken within the last week, bears have been sighted near the road leading up to the recently re-opened LA Reservoir. N3B has announced it has completed transition for the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract (LLCC) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Environmental Management Los Alamos Field Office (EM-LA).
N3B’s contract standup brings LANL in line with the model DOE uses at its national laboratories and production facilities across the country, where the environmental cleanup mission is managed separately from the operations mission.

Chicoma Fire Near Espanola Grows To 42 Acres

The Chicoma Fire, which started Monday afternoon in the Espanola Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) five miles east of Chicoma Peak and nine miles west of Espanola grew to more than 40 acres overnight.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
SFNF public affairs assistant Anna Bouchonville told the Los Alamos Daily Post today that resources on the scene include four engines, two water tankers, a 20-person handcrew and a 20-person hotshot crew. She said four air tankers have been dropping retardant on the fire.

SFNF News:
A fire ignited Monday afternoon in the Espanola Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest, nine miles west of Espanola and five miles east of Chicoma peak.
- Start Date: April 30, 2018
- Cause: Unknown
- Size: 20 acres
- Weather: The winds are out of the southwest, gusting up to 20 MPH.
- Situation: The fire was reported Monday afternoon. Resources on scene include three engines and a 20-person hand crew. Four air tankers also are on scene, dropping retardant on the fire. In addition, a 20-person hotshot crew headed to the scene late Monday along with two additional fire engines.
