UNM-LA Holds Home-School College Day
The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos invites the public to Home-School College Day. The event will introduce students in grades seven through 12 and their families to the college campus.
Home-School College day is 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Feb. 13. An RSVP is appreciated and ensures that the campus will have sufficient food and information packets for everyone attending.

Today, Friday, Feb. 1, is the last day to cast a pre-election day vote or get an absentee ballot at the County Clerk’s Office.
The Clerk’s Office is across from the Reel Deal Movie Theater, in the modular office directly behind the Demo Garden on Central Avenue at Oppenheimer Drive.
The actual voting day and last day to turn in absentee ballots is 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Community Building in Los Alamos and at the Los Alamos County Fire Station in White Rock.

Topper Revue Opens Today!

The Los Alamos High School Olions will kick off the 2013 Topper Revue at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. at Duane Smith Auditorium.
Topper Revue is the annual talent and variety show at the high school. Topper Revue showcases the talents of student performers in a madcap variety show atmosphere.

AP Night at Los Alamos High School Tuesday

Students and parents are invited to attend the second annual AP Night, 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5 at Los Alamos High School.
The evening will begin with a brief presentation in the Topper Theater. Attendees will then be able to meet with teachers and students to learn more about AP and Honors course offerings at LAHS.
Representatives from UNM-LA will also be on hand to discuss the dual credit/concurrent enrollment program.

Aspen Art Teacher Receives LAPSF Grant

Britt Williams, art teacher at Aspen Elementary School, received a Great Ideas Grant from the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation.
Williams’ grant will impact 55 6th grade students. The students will learn about the Empty Bowls events from Gillian Sutton.
Then, they will learn about clay process, see examples from other artists and do the preliminary sketches of their bowls.
After constructing their bowls using slabs and forms, the students can add texture to their bowls or build up features on the bowl’s surface.

Members of the canvassing board this morning at the Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office reviewed vote tabulations from Tuesday’s School Bond Election before signing documents to render the final count – 4,283 For and 1,784 Against as official. Chamisa Third-graders Returning to School Wednesday

Chamisa Principal Debbie Smith announced that the school will begin bringing back students on a staggered basis beginning tomorrow, Jan 30, with the third grade. Classes will be relocated on a temporary basis as listed below.

The site of the Special School Board Meeting to discuss vandalism has been changed. The meeting will take place at 5 p.m. Weds., Jan. 30 at the LAPS Administration Office at 2075 Trinity Dr. Suite V in Los Alamos. The meeting is in response to the recent vandalism at Pinon School.
