LAPS Announces New Principals At LAMS And Piñon

LAPS News:

After an extensive interview process involving teachers, staff and parents, two Principal positions have been filled in the Los Alamos Public Schools. 

Ivanna Austell is the incoming principal at Piñon Elementary School in White Rock and Pamela Miller will serve as assistant principal at Los Alamos Middle School.

Austell has a Master of Arts (MA) in Educational Leadership and Administration from Eastern New Mexico and a second MA in Educational Technology from Lesley College. Her Bachelor’s degree is in Early Childhood and Elementary Education.  Read More

LAPS To Launch 1:1 Initiative In 2017-2018

Starting with the 2017 – 2018 school year, the Los Alamos Public Schools will issue a 14-inch Chromebook to every student in grades 7-12.

Project Lead Salvador Zapien for the 1:1 Initiative said that a teacher survey found that studnt access to appropriate technology is an important part of today’s learning environment.

Community Invited To Bingo Night Wednesday At IHM

The community is invited to attend Bingo Night, 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Hall. Packets are $20 each and 16 games will be played. The event is a fundraiser for the parish youth group.

Prizes will be gift baskets with a minimum value of $20. Frito pies, chili dogs, candy and popcorn will be available for purchase.

“This will be a great night out for all ages,” IHM Youth Minister Kendra Wilhelm said. “If it is successful, we will have more Bingo Nights in the future.”

Northern New Mexico College Offers Three Bachelor’s Degree Programs At Santa Fe Higher Education Center

ESPANOLA  Northern New Mexico College plans to offer three bachelor’s degree programs at the Santa Fe Higher Education Center (HEC) starting in fall 2017.
 
Under a recent agreement with HEC, Northern will offer bachelor’s programs in Information Engineering Technology, Business Administration/Project Management, and Integrative Studies/Psychology.
 
The three Northern programs are not currently offered by the HEC’s other partner institutions, and will enhance bachelor’s degree options for students in Santa Fe and the surrounding areas.

Many very deserving students were awarded scholarships May 30 at the Los Alamos High School Class of 2017 Honors Convocation.
