PED Updates Interactive School Funding Dashboard

NMPED News:

SANTA FE — The Public Education Department’s interactive digital dashboard now allows the public to track how New Mexico schools are spending $488 million in federal COVID-19 relief funding to support students amid pandemic-related learning disruptions.

The department launched the digital dashboard in September with data from the first round of relief funding ($97.7 million, now 89% spent) and enhanced it this week to include round two ($390.4 million, now 38% spent).

NNMC Announces New Start Date For Its Free Carpentry Training Camps Is Monday March 28

NNMC News:

EL RITO — The Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) Trades program has announced a new start date for the first of several free Carpentry Training Camps.

The first weekday session begins Monday, March 28, with additional camps launching as registrations fill. Weekday, weeknight and weekend sessions are available.

These free Camps will prepare participants to be job-ready for expanding opportunities in the construction trades.

The Carpentry Camps are offered in partnerships with the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions and the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters. Read More

New Mexico Graduation Rate Beats Predictions

SANTA FE — New Mexico’s high school graduation rate defied expert predictions of a decline and held steady in 2021 despite the learning challenges posed by a second year of the pandemic, the New Mexico Public of Education Department (NMPED) announced Thursday.

The 2021 four-year graduation rate for all New Mexico high school seniors was 76.8 percent, a statistically insignificant change of a tenth of a percentage point from the 76.9 percent rate in spring 2020, which was a nearly 2-point increase from 2019’s rate of 75 percent.

Washington D.C. – U.S. Senators Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) introduced legislation to advance Impact Aid programs closer to full funding and to increase funding for public school districts on federal land, which are tax-exempt and therefore have significantly less tax revenue to meet their schools’ and students’ needs.

Justice Thomson: New Mexico Supreme Court Expands Educational Program On The Rule Of Law

I am excited to announce the second year of a New Mexico Supreme Court civics education program about the judiciary’s role in our democracy and the development of the rule of law.

Last year’s program was a resounding success, reaching over 580 students in schools statewide. Students watched recordings of an oral argument before our Supreme Court and worked with learning materials about the case.
