This year, LAHS took third at the state competition, and all five teams garnered medals. The Smash Bros team came in 1st place in 4A, the Rocket League team garnered 2nd place. The Hearthstone, Mario Kart and Splatoon teams came in 3rd. Team members were recognized for their accomplishments in competition this year at a recent School Board meeting.
eSports became a New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA) sanctioned activity in 2019. That year, teams from Los Alamos placed 2nd. In 2021, they were named 4A state champions. LAHS teacher Libbi Lovejoy is the sponsor of the eSports teams.
“It requires skill, strategy, dedication and determination to succeed in eSports,” Lovejoy said. “It is video games, but not everyone can achieve the level of play that these students have in winning and achieving national ranking.”
The coaching staff includes Tony Sims (Head Coach), Blake Hovde (Assistant Coach/Production), Austin Goodbody (Assistant Coach/Production), Mike Dolejsi (Assistant Coach – Mario Kart), and Kris Pantanilla (Assistant Coach – Mario Kart).‘
Congratulations on a winning season.
