Smokey: Remember, ‘Only YOU can prevent wildfires’.

The New Mexico State Library (NMSL) supports summer reading programs at libraries around the state and also partners for Smokey Bear’s 80th Birthday.
This year’s theme for public libraries is “Adventure Begins at Your Library” and NMSL is also partnering with the US Forest Service for its Smokey Bear Reading Challenge, providing related materials to New Mexico libraries celebrating Smokey Bear’s 80th Birthday.
Additional resources including historical documents, videos, vintage poster images, news clippings and a Smokey the Bear song sheet can be found on the NMSL New Mexico State Library website.
NMSL champions summer reading programs, as they help build relationships and community, foster civic partnerships, encourage reading and the use of other library resources, and provide needed out-of-school programming throughout New Mexico:
