COUNTY News:
Los Alamos Public Library, with the Los Alamos Teen Center and Los Alamos Arts Council, is co-sponsoring three workshops with artist and teacher Michael Albert on Wednesday, June 12.
The first workshop is designed to guide elementary-age kids through the making of Albert’s collage art, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Mesa Public Library.
The second workshop, targeted at teens and sponsored by the Los Alamos Teen Center, is 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Mesa Public Library.
That evening, Albert will lead a third workshop for adults, 5:30-7:30 p.m., hosted at the Fuller Lodge Arts Center and sponsored by the Los Alamos Arts Council.
Albert, a visiting New York City artist and teacher, is a self-described “Cereal Artist” where his art builds colorful tableaus of collage from cereal boxes and other paperboard packaging. Albert has worked extensively with kids of all ages in his workshops and tailors his support of the group’s creativity to the needs and interests of each group.
No participants of any age will be turned away from the workshops, so families may attend in groups.
Participation in these workshops is entirely free for all ages thanks to the sponsorship of the Los Alamos Public Library, Los Alamos Teen Center and Los Alamos Arts Council. All workshop materials and art supplies will be provided for participants.
This series of workshops is included as part of the activities in the Los Alamos Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge, wherein library staff have collected lists of books, activities and events under the theme Read, Renew, Repeat!
Participants of all ages can learn about the Reading Challenges available to them at LosAlamosLibrary.org or sign up on lacnm.beanstack.org in preparation for the June 10 launch of the summer reading programs.
