DPU Kicks Off Customer Survey
COUNTY News:
Officials with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities are encouraging customers to devote 10 minutes to rate the DPU’s performance in providing electric, natural gas, water, and wastewater services. The seventh biennial customer satisfaction survey is kicking off this week.
An independent firm, Southwest Planning & Marketing is conducting a phone survey with some online options. Data from DPU’s residential and commercial customers will be compiled, interpreted and presented in a report. Los Alamos Police Chief Dino Sgambellone has released his annual report for the Department for 2016. The 32-page report highlights everything from the Bomb Team to the Bike Team and includes many statistics related to the various services provided by LAPD.
Scattered throughout the report are dozens of “Moments of Opportunities”, which include commendations from grateful residents and visitors on situations where the Department provided extra assistance or participated in community events.

Los Alamos Police Cpl. Jack Casias remains on desk duty almost seven months after an incident involving a fellow officer resulted in injuries to his arm, wrist and hand. He has been assigned to administrative duties for the department since the incident, which was investigated by New Mexico State Police (NMSP) at Chief Dino Sgambellone’s request.

The Office of Management and Budget for Los Alamos County was notified this week by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) that it has been awarded the “Distinguished Budget Presentation Award” for its FY17 Budget.

By TERRY GOLDMANI am increasingly dismayed by the recurring disingenuousness of our County Council.
Over the last half-century, they have continually failed to press the DPU to charge rates high enough to account for amortization of facilities, as any good business must do. As little as 1 percent higher rates over that period would have provided a substantial fund to replace the wastewater treatment plant and refurbish water and sewer lines without a significant rate increase as is now necessary.
