Bronach Celtic Blues in Concert at Ashley Pond 7 p.m. Today!

Bronach Celtic Blues will take the stage at Ashley Pond at 7 p.m. today, Aug. 19, for a one hour concert featuring modern twists on traditional jigs, reels and airs. 

Bronach Celtic Blues is a trio based in Los Alamos. The group includes Jonathan Dowell on electric mountain dulcimer, Tessa Dowell on bodhran (Irish drum) and pennywhistle and David Sarnowski on guitar.

This show is part of the summer “Tuesdays at the Pond” concert series sponsored by the Los Alamos Creative District.

This Week at the Reel Deal

This week we are opening The Giver.  Into the Storm, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Guardians of the Galaxy (great film!) will hold for another week. Lucy will end Thursday.

I did see Into the Storm and despite poor review, I enjoyed the film. It kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

Next week on Aug. 22, we are confirmed to open The Hundred Foot Journey and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. That leaves two remaining screens. If Guardians is still doing well, we will have to hold it another week and choose between When the Game Stands Read More

Roaring Jelly, a local Celtic/ Americana band, will play and Donna Howell, a local dance teacher and radio personality, will be the caller at a contra dance Saturday, Aug 16 at the Posse Lodge in Los Alamos.

Before the dance, which starts at 7:30 p.m., there will be a short lesson at 7 p.m. The $8 admission fee will benefit the Los Alamos Sheriff’s Posse. Partners are not necessary.

Los Alamos Soprano Melissa Riedel, along with Albuquerque pianist Darby Fegan, will present a recital Saturday, Aug. 16, at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 601 Montaño Road NW in Albuquerque.

The recital will begin at 4 p.m., and includes pieces from several different composers, including Richard Strauss and John Jacob Niles.
