SFNF: Cuervito Fire Behavior Remains Low To Moderate

SANTA FE — The Type 3 Incident Management Team on the Cuervito Fire on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) will be conducting hand and aerial ignitions in the coming days.

This operation is part of a management strategy to use this lightning-caused wildfire to achieve significant benefits on the ground and reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire in the future.

SANTA FE – The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) will implement Stage 1 fire restrictions forest-wide on Monday, May 24, to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfire during extreme drought conditions, historically low fuel moisture levels and high fire danger.

Stage 1 fire restrictions are a proactive way to reduce the very real risk of human-caused wildfire, protect natural and cultural resources, and enhance public and firefighter safety.

SANTA FE – New Mexico Department of Health officials announced today 223 new COVID-19 cases.

Los Alamos County reports 1 new case so the total is now 526 people who have tested positive for COVID-19. (County totals are subject to change upon further investigation and determination of residency of individuals positive for COVID-19.)

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Public Education Department (PED) announced today that New Mexico’s public schools will continue requiring staff, educators, students and visitors to wear masks at all times except when eating or drinking.

  • New Mexico adopts CDC mask guidance for fully vaccinated individuals

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Health announced Friday the state’s adoption of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s updated guidance on facemasks for those who are fully vaccinated. 

Per the CDC, in most circumstances, fully vaccinated individuals are no longer required to wear a mask in either indoor or outdoor settings. All individuals who are unvaccinated or not yet fully vaccinated are still required, per the public health order and CDC guidance, to wear a mask in public settings.

The U.S. Marshals and the FBI are alerting the public of several nationwide imposter scams involving individuals claiming to be U.S. Marshals, court officers/officials, or other law enforcement officials.
