NM-WT Amateur Championship At Black Mesa June 26-28

ESPANOLA – The 2023 New Mexico-West Texas (NM-WT) Amateur Championship is set to take place June 26-28 at Black Mesa Golf Club. This will be a 54-hole stroke play event that will feature some of the best amateur golfers from New Mexico and West Texas.

Defending champion and current New Mexico State Aggie Aidan Thomas will return to the 2023 field two days after competing in the Northeast Amateur in Rhode Island. Thomas will tee off  round one at 8:10 a.m. off the first tee, playing alongside teammate and 2021 SCAGA Men’s Player of the Year River Smalley.

The New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors are sad to announce the passing of Board President Theo Barela Wednesday morning. He was serving his second year as president.

Barela went the extra mile to make the Hall of Fame events special for the honorees. He also positively impacted the community in a variety of ways. Barela was a Menual School (1970) and UNM (1975) graduate who was in hotel management since 1975 across the country. He was the director of the lodging committee of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Local Athletes Represent Team New Mexico At Wrestling Competition

From left, Los Alamos High School Women’s Head Wrestling Coach Emily Tew, Gala Nelson, Jackson Blair and LAHS Boy’s Head Wrestling Coach Paul Wilson take part in the Turf Wars held this week in Farmington, Utah.
