The second annual Valles Caldera PyroClassic XC Mountain Bike Race got underway this morning.

Considered one of the most scenic and challenging mountain bike races in New Mexico, the race courses for Pro/Cat1, Intermediate/Cat 2, and Beginners/Cat3 cover the stunning landscape of the Valles Caldera National Preserve, winding through valley meadows and climbing over the flanks of the volcanic upheaval of 11,000 foot Redondo Peak.

As summer begins to wind down, the Los Alamos County Recreation Department is gearing up once again for the 41st Annual Triathlon to be held Saturday, Aug. 15, as well as the 22nd Annual Kids’ Triathlon taking place Sunday, Aug. 16.
 
These amazing events rely heavily on the generous support of community volunteers to guide and support racers along the course.

Woodroffe Is Best Predictor In Tuesday’s Pace Race

Laura Woodroffe was the best predictor in Tuesday’s weekly Atomic City Road Runners Pace Race with a 3 second differential from her predicted time. 
 
The Lawrence E. Wangen Memorial Race was held on the trails behind the Aquatic Center and included a 1 mile paved course and 1 mile and 5K trail distances. Other top predictors included Zach Medin at 8 seconds off, Joan Williams recording a 12 second difference, and Bob Weeks at 15 seconds off his prediction.

Los Alamos High School Girls Soccer Tryouts begin Aug. 10

All girls interested in trying out for the high school teams need to report to the LAHS auxiliary gymnasium at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10. This is a mandatory meeting for anyone planning on trying out for the Girls Soccer Team. Also, anyone planning to tryout must have their physical completed and have registered on Family ID.

Tryouts will begin immediately following the meeting so bring running shoes.
