Aram Harrow of the University of Washington will present Fault-Tolerant Memory and Computation in the Presence of Adversarial Noise at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10 in the Medium Conference Room at the Santa Fe Institute.
Abstract: Theoretical and practical work on fault-tolerant computation has shown that it is possible to compute reliably in the presence of a sufficiently small constant rate of random noise.
In this work, we consider for the first time the case of adversarial noise; i.e. an adversary who can choose a small constant fraction of bits to flip after each step of the computation. Read More

The 20/20 Campaign Recognizes Eight High Growth Companies in Northern New Mexico

Eight companies were announced on Thursday, Oct. 4 at the Spirit of Innovation event in Santa Fe as part of the 20/20 Campaign to celebrate small businesses in Northern New Mexico. The event will be held at the Scottish Rite Temple from 6 to 8 p.m. The 20/20 Campaign aims to recognize and support 20 high-growth companies by the year 2020 that are becoming major employers in Northern New Mexico. The community of Los Alamos is invited to a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new Los Alamos Middle School Turf Field and Track at 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11.
The ceremony takes place at the LAMS football field prior to the start of the Hawks football game vs. McCurdy.
The new turf and track project started back in 2009 with the LAPS Athletic Department investigating the benefits of a turf field.
Following the construction of the Sullivan Field Turf project, the LAMS football field and track project got underway.

At the Tuesday, Oct. 3 County Council meeting, Deputy Utilities Manager – Engineering, James Alarid of the Los Alamos County-Department of Public Utilities (LAC-DPU), led a presentation providing the details of a preliminary engineering report regarding access to Los Alamos County’s contracted 1,200 Acre-Feet-Per-Year (AFY) of water from the San Juan-Chama Water Project.
