Three Los Alamos County Department of Public Utilities employees garnered “Outstanding Operator of the Year” awards at a recent awards banquet of the New Mexico Water and Wastewater Association. Los Alamos National Laboratory is well into its Summer 2013 student placement campaign and we are getting a lot of inquiries regarding housing options for students.

This year the LANL Student Programs Office will be facilitating the process via a new “Student Housing” web page.

If you or your neighbors have a living space that would be suitable and available for students, please forward the details to Rebecca Duran (rduran@lanl.gov) in the LANL Student Programs Office.

Executive Director Susan Mack of Los Alamos Family Strengths Network (FSN), spoke to a meeting of the Rotary Club of Los Alamos Tuesday.

Mack thanked the Club for its donation of $250 to purchase books for FSN’s Beth Ladino Family Resource Library.

The donation is part of the Rotary Club’s Literacy Project.

The Beth Ladino Family Resource Library houses 1,400 resources on a wide range of topics related to family well-being.

Geoff Chesshire will answer these and many other questions at the brown-bag lunch Thursday at The Hive, 134 N.M. 4 in White Rock. The brown-bag lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and the talk begins at noon.

Meet Los Alamos’ own roller derby team, the M’Atom Bombs, before the movie.

The team is part of the local league, the LA Derby Dames. The event starts at 6 p.m. and the movie begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4 at Mesa Public Library.

WASHINGTON – From the Oval Office to Taos, New Mexicans and members of the Congressional Delegation celebrated Monday the Río Grande del Norte National Monument Proclamation that was signed by President Barack Obama.

The national monument designation is widely welcome by Taos and Rio Arriba county residents. A recent study shows the national monument will support hundreds of jobs and bring millions of tourism dollars to the area.
