This is the 4th Annual Great Conversations hosted by the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation and it takes place 2-5 p.m., April 28 at Los Alamos High School in the new building.

The three newest Los Alamos Living Treasures were honored at an Awards Ceremony Sunday. Lee Builta, Rosmarie Frederickson and Craig Martin join a distinguished group of Los Alamos citizens honored since 1999 for their contributions to the community.

First Lt. Garret Nelson Receives His Wings

Los Alamos High School graduate First Lt. Garret M. Nelson, USMC, received his wings April 12, as a United States Naval Aviator in the Marine Corps.
He will be flying the AH-1W Cobra Helicopter. Lt. Nelson will be training in San Diego and then stationed in North Carolina.

In celebration of Earth Day, U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich reintroduced legislation Monday to designate the 45,000-acre Columbine-Hondo area in Taos County as wilderness – a proposal with strong support from the local community.
A companion bill will be introduced today in the House by U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján.

By CAROL A. CLARKA Los Alamos Public Schools Special Education teacher is suing the district, its superintendent, and the principal of Aspen Elementary School.

Jemez Pueblo Man Pleads Guilty to Federal Assault Charge

ALBUQUERQUE—Jerome Dominic Concha, 20, a member and resident of Jemez Pueblo, pleaded guilty this morning to a federal assault charge under a plea agreement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Concha was arrested Jan. 10, on a criminal complaint charging him with assault with a dangerous weapon. In February, Concha was indicted and charged with assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
According to court records, on Jan. 1, Concha repeatedly struck another Jemez Pueblo man in the face and head with a hatchet in a residence on Jemez Pueblo.
