UNM-LA Music Marathon Offers Six Hours of Music Sunday

The Fourth Annual UNM-Los Alamos Music Marathon will raise money for student scholarships 2-8 p.m. Sunday at UNM-LA Auditorium.
Six hours of live and varied music – from Celtic folk tunes, upbeat jazz, Polish mazurkas with dancers, to a guitar soloist, bluegrass band, and classical piano – all for one voluntary donation. Listeners are welcome to stay for the whole program or come and go as they wish.

The Dixie Girl Restaurant has a lot going on these days, including Dart League on Mondays, Open Mic Tuesdays, Karaoke Thursdays as well as plenty of music.
This week, DK and the Affordables will perform starting at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17. There’s no cover charge.

NCRTD ‘Blue Buses’ Not in Service Jan. 20

The North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD) has announced that the RTD “Blue Buses” will not be in service Monday, Jan. 20, in observance of the Martin Luther King Day holiday.
Regularly scheduled bus service throughout north central New Mexico including Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Santa Fe and Taos counties will resume Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Expanding Your Horizons Conference Inspires Girls to Pursue Science Careers
For the past 20 years, Los Alamos National Laboratory employees have been presenting the Expanding Your Horizons Conference for young women. With the help of sponsors like Los Alamos National Laboratory, the LANL Foundation, Tech Source, and Los Alamos National Bank, the conference presents students with information and encouragement for pursuing education and careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Because ski hill operations have been suspended, beer and band has moved to the Dixie Girl Restaurant. The event starts at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18. Pajarito Mountain Ski Patrol Member Garners National Recognition

Los Alamos High School senior Nathan Phillips is the runner up for Outstanding Young Adult Patroller in the nation. He received a Silver Merit Star and was recognized in the recent issue of the National Ski Patrol magazine.
Phillips has been a member of the Pajarito Mountain Ski Patrol (PMSP) for four years, helping provide safe snow sport recreation on the mountain. He and the rest of the local Young Adult Ski Patrol are attending the Rocky Mountain Division Young Adult seminar at Winterpark, Colo., in March.
