Los Alamos County Administrator Harry Burgess issued the following statement today with regard to Wednesday’s filing of a lawsuit against the County by two former Los Alamos police commanders and a detective:

“Late Wednesday afternoon we were notified by media that the law office of George Geran chose to release to them a lawsuit supposedly filed against the County by three current/former LAPD officers.

Former Taos County Housing Authority Chief and Husband Headed to Prison

ALBUQUERQUE—A federal judge Thursday sentenced the former executive director of the Taos County Housing Authority (TCHA) and her husband to prison terms for conspiring to steal federal funds.

The couple also was ordered jointly to pay $786,014.04 in restitution. Carmella Martinez, 42, of Arroyo Seco was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison, and her husband Paul G. Martinez, 44, was sentenced to 24 months of imprisonment. Each will serve a two-year term of supervised probation when released from custody.

The Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Service Hospice Program is hosting its annual “Daffodils for Hospice” sale. Proceeds from the sale support the Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Service Hospice program for terminally ill individuals. 

Daffodil pre-orders are being taken now through March 3. Purchasers may order a glass vase with two bunches (20 stems) of daffodils for $15, a glass vase with one bunch for $10 or a single bunch (10 stems) for $5. Delivery is free with any $10 minimum order to a single address.

Families in Los Alamos County are helped through the office of Self Help, Inc. who serves as the local Salvation Army branch. The generosity of our community helps Los Alamos County families to pay for basic needs such as housing, food, utility bills, emergency travel and clothing.

We started ringing the bells right after Thanksgiving until Christmas Eve just Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at both Smith stores. We had 45 volunteers who rang the bell.
