Los Alamos ScienceFest has expanded to a full week of mind-blowing demonstrations, interactive activities, art, discussions for inquisitive minds of all ages, Sept. 5-13 in Los Alamos, and the majority of events are free.

Trinadad  and Felicia Mendez have been selling produce at the Los Alamos Farmers Market for eight years.

Their son Luis often helps at the market, but as soon as school starts his mom is back to running the booth alone.  She said Luis is always busy with school, football and all the other things going on in his life. He is the youngest of three kids, two boys and a girl. Luis wants to join the USMC, after finishing high school.

SANTA FE – The lightning caused Pino Fire, on Santa Fe National Forest’s Jemez Ranger District, is now estimated at 152 acres. The fire is five miles south of N.M. 4 and six miles east of Jemez Springs.

This fire is being managed for resource benefits. Sunday’s fire behavior was the most active seen on this fire, and is accomplishing resource objectives, including fuel reduction, nutrient recycling, forest insect and disease regulation, and watershed protection for Ponderosa and other communities. This Week’s Recipe: Goat Cheese and Cranberry Appetizers
 
Ingredients:
 
Puff pastry, thawed
Goat cheese
Can of whole cranberry sauce (like the sauce your mom would serve at Thanksgiving)
1 egg, beaten
 
Directions:
 
Cut the puff pastry sheets into 1/3’s  and then again into squares. Take a few spoonful’s of the cranberry sauce and put it into a sieve. Rinse it under running water until most of the sauce is rinsed away.

YMCA Fencing Class Begins Tuesday, Sept. 2

YMCA News:

The YMCA fencing class starts at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2. The class is for fencers with previous experience.

There will be 30 minutes of combined class drills, followed by 30 minutes of bouting and/or individual instruction. Experienced fencers interested only in bouting should come at 7 p.m.  The next beginning fencing class for those with no experience will start in Feburary or March 2015.

Expert Presents History of Chile in Southwest
