By JENNA ERICKSON and EMILY HOPKINS Hello! My name is Jenna Erickson and I am the 2014 chair of the United Way Youth Team. It is such an honor for me to be in this position to work on the events that the team has to present to the community this year.
I am so excited for everyone to see what we have to offer. The members of the team this year are so motivated, creative, passionate, and just cannot wait to present all the hard work that they have been doing to everyone. We hope the community is as excited as we are.

New Mexico Museum of Art Taps Carmen Vendelin As New Curator of Art

Carmen Vendelin was recently the Curator of Art at La Salle University Art Museum in Philadelphia, Penn. Previously, she was at the Newark Museum, Newark, NJ, the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University, and at the Art Institute of Chicago.
She has more than 13 years of museum experience, 10 of those curatorial. Her area of specialization is 19th and 20th century American and European art with particular emphasis on the years between the 1870s and World War II. At the New Mexico Museum of Art, she will be working mainly with collections before 1955.

Letter to the Editor: ‘Face of PEEC’ Has Died
By KATHERINE WATSONTo hundreds of locals and visitors, the face of PEEC has long been a smiling boy in an orange sweatshirt looking delightedly at a bird perched in his hand.
This picture sums up everything that PEEC wants to be for the community—a source of joy and delight in nature.
We at PEEC were heartbroken to hear that the model for that joyful picture has passed away. Ryan Pappas’ smile has meant so very much to us for many years. It’s hard to comprehend that he is no longer out in the world, spreading the delight that his smile reflects.

The website gives entrepreneurs everything they need to successfully launch their startups. Users can

WIPP: Employees Can Enter Radiological Buffer Areas
WIPP News:
Work continues to recover areas of the WIPP underground facility and steadily move toward resuming normal operations.
Radiological control technicians and geophysical engineers enter the facility regularly to evaluate the different zones for radioactive contamination and structural integrity. Zones determined to be structurally sound and within release limits for radioactive contamination are reclassified as radiological buffer areas.

Joan Logghe, Santa Fe’s Poet Laureate 2010-2012, will be teaching a Creative Writing class at UNM-LA. The class will meet 9-11:45 a.m. Fridays, Sept. 12 to Dec. 5.

Torin is survived by his parents Shawn McWhorter and Carrie Mann-Adair, five sisters, Jessie, Cora, Leah, Ana and Teagan, Uncle Kevin Mann, grandparents Lewis McWhorter, David and Antoinette Mann, Tom and Sue Garcia, and Connie Middleton.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday Sept. 4 at The Christian Church, 92 East Road in Los Alamos, N.M.
