SANTA FE — Gov. Susana Martinez has issued an executive order for flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset Thursday, Sept. 11, in honor and remembrance of the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

WIPP: Additional Areas Cleared in Underground Facility
WIPP: personnel continue to work diligently to restore normal access to the WIPP underground facility. The graphic identifies areas that have been surveyed for radiological contamination. The areas highlighted in green have been found to be contamination free. The surveys are conducted on the salt surfaces of the mine, but also include survey and release of any equipment or other structures located in these areas. Individuals conducting radiological surveys are trained on use of radiation detection equipment and the actions that are required should they identify radioactive contamination. Read More

Letter to the Editor: Guided By Something Jefferson Wrote With Regard To Amendments
By RICHARD HANNEMANNI have yet to see a solid reason presented as to the need for the currently proposed Charter amendment.
I didn’t see any good reason for any of the previous amendments either. But perhaps this is because in all matters of this nature I am guided by something Jefferson wrote, “It is the natural propensity for the functionaries of every government to gather unto themselves the rights and property of their constituents.”
Seems to me that charter amendments can be one means toward that end.

SANTA FE — Prescribed fires will be conducted throughout Santa Fe National Forest Sept. 15 through Oct. 31 as conditions are favorable.
These fires are designed to reduce excess fuels, provide community protection, and improve forest health. The start dates and duration of these burns will be dependent on weather, wind, and fuel moisture conditions.
