JEMEZ SPRINGS — Free hiking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing will be offered to visitors of the Valles Caldera National Preserve this weekend in honor of Presidents Day.

Letter to the Editor: Domenici Says Right-To-Work Bill Good For New Mexico
I am writing in response to those who oppose the proposed right to work legislation. While I respect those who oppose, they are flat out wrong on this issue.
The truth is, passing right-to-work legislation would be good for New Mexico’s workers and our economy. But unfortunately, some politicians are trying to turn this into a partisan battle even though a majority of Americans support it.
It’s not hard to see why.

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) will be completing road pavement assessment today on the I-25 southbound lanes from mile marker 265 to mile marker 267 near La Bajada Hill.
There will be a one lane closure on the I-25 southbound lanes until 3 p.m. and speed will be reduced to 55 mph.

The New Mexico Motor Transportation Police implemented a “soft launch” Thursday of its new oversize/overweight permitting system.
This system, named “New Mexico Operating Permit System” (NM-OPS) was built for the Motor Transportation Police Department (MTPD) for the purpose of allowing the commercial trucking industry to self-issue nearly all of the required permits on-line.

With the mild weather we’ve experienced over most of the winter and with most of the snow currently gone from the course we are planning to open this Saturday.
Golf shop hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with our first tee time at 10 a.m. We’ll close the range at 3:45 p.m.
Because we are still in mid-winter, the following restrictions will be in place. Those that use carts will be restricted to paths, sorry but those that usually use a flag to access the fairways to reach their ball will also be restricted to the cart paths.

Deadline For Special Use Authorization On Santa Fe National Forest Feb. 15

SANTA FE – The Santa Fe National Forest will implement a key change to the process of obtaining a Special Use Authorization.
Starting this year, the Santa Fe National Forest will require all proposals for outfitter and guide services for the year to be submitted no later than Sunday. Proposals received after that date will not be accepted for this calendar year. This date coincides with the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish deadline for inclusion in the outfitter pool for state license tag drawings without penalty.

Fisher: Lottery Bill Is A Bad Gamble For Students

Yet that is precisely what the New Mexico Lottery is proposing to do with the Lottery Scholarship, which serves as the college fund for many New Mexico students from low and middle income families.
The Lottery is attempting to pass Senate Bill 355, which would eliminate the requirement that a minimum of 30 percent of lottery revenues be dedicated to the scholarship fund. This requirement was enacted in 2007, based on a proposal by Think New Mexico. Read More
